Our Story: Were It All Began

Soul of Abruzzo Retreats was born from a serendipitous meeting. Searching for meaningful change, Oliver (founder of Soul of Abruzzo Retreats) stumbled upon Piero’s farm in Abruzzo, a region tied to Oliver’s family roots. Drawn by the connection to his heritage, he decided to stay for two months. The experience was transformative; days filled with harvesting fresh produce, sharing meals with Piero’s family, and soaking in the beauty of the land. It left a deep imprint on his soul.

The warmth of the people, the simplicity of farm life, and the breathtaking beauty of Abruzzo sparked an idea: why not share this with others? As Oliver shared his journey with friends and online communities, people felt the pull to experience the same magic. From there, Soul of Abruzzo Retreats was created, not as a typical vacation, but as a way to connect with the true heart of Italy.

Now, each retreat welcomes guests like family, offering the same joy, peace, and soulful connection to the land that forever changed Oliver’s life. Here, you’re invited to rediscover life’s simplest and most meaningful pleasures.

You won’t be staying in a separate hotel or even Airbnb, away from the way most people live here; you’ll actually be on the farmland that they have owned for over 50 years. Imagine eating a home-cooked meal at the dinner table with an Italian family, enjoying the food they sourced from their farm that you just got to see. Not even the fanciest restaurants could compare to the authentic and delicious taste of a truly homemade Italian meal!

In between meals, you'll get to explore the gorgeous nature just minutes away from your stay. Mountain tops, forest trails, waterfalls, and stunning lookouts of Abruzzo, Italy. You’ll visit local towns, experience the culture, learn about their history, and enjoy a slower way of living. You’ll relax at the pristine Mediterranean beaches that line the east coast of Italy, letting go of the busyness of your normal day-to-day.

Meet Your Italian Host, Piero!

Piero lives and breathes the Soul Of Abruzzo. You’ll be staying in his family’s beautiful home up in the mountains, in a little town called Roccamontepiano. He will take care of you and provide you with the best experience possible. Besides the various gardens on the property, his family owns a larger farm where you will get to immerse yourself in how the tomatoes, zucchini, squash, onions, peppers, eggplant, and corn are grown. He’ll show you the process of how they make their olive oil from the olive grove they have and walk you through the vineyards to show how they make the wine. He’ll even take you behind the scenes to see how he processes the honey from his bee farm! Piero has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the little details of keeping the farm running smoothly. Make sure to ask him plenty of questions! He’s been living in this area his whole life and knows all the hidden gems that you wouldn’t be able to find on your own. This is the true value of living like a local!
